Q: True large disk geometry? [Partitioning during install]
Is it advisable to install SQL Server / WSS (I mean the base software, not the actual databases, portals) in the OS partition? Sure, if you make sure to allocate enough space for that volume. I put my applications in the OS partition. Again, with a single array, all this is useful for is organization.

Then you can put LILO on hda1 instead of the MBR and not have to worry about large disk support or Windows stepping on it (which Windows will tend to do when you install or upgrade). If you are not sure how to translate the drive, just make a small DOS partition and then remove that when you partition it with Linux

Missed partitioning option during install
Press F8 to continue the install 7. Continue on until you get to the partitioning. Make sure you don't fumble the ball like I did. 8. Continue to the end of set up. Change boot priority in BIOS to first boot from HD (see HD selection in BIOS too) before you examine that it works. *You're not finished yet.

Suppose you want to create a new partition for /var: Boot into single-user mode - this is because with /var you will be deleting stuff that is currently in use in a multi-user environment. It isn't necessary if you're moving /home or the like. # cfdisk /dev/hdc # partition new hard disk hdc?

A problem still exists when not booting from the first primary partition. This problem is not yet solved in Service Pack 4, we can hope for a solution in a subsequent Service Pack. It is therefore recommended to make the first primary partition active before installing NT. NT Setup can only create FAT partitions up

Yes, you can install froom the XP CD-ROM: Boot from the CD ROM, then start to go through the steps to *install* XP. Don't bother with the 'Recovery Console' - even if you simply want to re-partition at this point - as it won't work. If you simply want to re-partition, boot from the XP CD-ROM go through the motions
